Paul Finebaum Is An Idiot

Listening to PF is hard not to do when you're in Birmingham. Even though he's incredibly pro Alabama/anti Auburn, it's still hilarious to hear fans call in and talk about things that they know nothing about. Also, to hear PF make an ass out of himself is hard to miss, too, though it does get very annoying. I just wanted to show this column from him today care of al.com:

With Gene Chizik at the helm, look for tough times on the Plains and 6-6 season

"With Gene Chizik driving the bus, are the good times back on the Plains? Or will Auburn fans continue singing the blues?

Right now, nobody has a clue.

In his first few months on the job, Chizik has done little to mute the critics who piercingly screamed that his hiring at Auburn -- with a 5-19 mark as a head coach -- ranked among the worst hires in modern SEC history. In fairness, other than standing on his head or riding a bucking bronco into Jordan-Hare on Saturday for A-Day, there probably hasn't been a lot he could have done to stem the tide. Chizik has taken the heat in stride, but it was recently made worse by his boss and chief enabler, athletics director Jay Jacobs.

Jacobs gutlessly turned down a prime-time spot against UCLA to open the 2010 season at the Georgia Dome. Auburn fans would have filled the joint to the rafters. Every advantage tilted Auburn's way except for the fact that the school is stuck with a clueless athletic director. Instead, the Tigers, who continue to slip among relevant SEC schools, will open the 2010 season at Jordan-Hare against Arkansas State.

Perhaps in future television commercials Auburn trustee Jimmy Rane could cease talking about "the yellow tag" on his company's pressure-treated wood and paint a yellow streak down Jacobs' back.

So what about 2009?"

Saturday And The Rest

Well I thought it went pretty well. Neil Caudle was decently consistent and our RB's looked really good, no doubt. I'm not giving out on Kodi yet, but he picked up where he left off last year and that's nowhere. The record crowd made it great and we got to meet some good people at the game. It's always good when the sun fries you for the sake of Auburn football.

As far as recruiting, we picked up another commit, OL Shon Coleman.

Remember that quote about having the best trip/experience they've ever had? I read it again, but this time it was different. This time it was from another one of the top 3 RB's in the country, Marcus Lattimore. SEE.

As far as baseball goes, we lost another series. I'm gonna go to the games, but damn we need offense. Our pitching staffs ERA's are averaging what, like a 10.00? That's probably a little low, but that's my guess. Oh well...we play Samford on Tuesday at home.

The Lake show is playing on a T.V. near you, you should check it out.

And the A's lost the series against Toronto.

Can You Dig It

It's finally here.
We'll finally get a peek into what our team is going to look like on both sides of the ball today.
I'll have some pictures up later today.

Along with A-Day: Hey, we're hosting the third 5-star running back of the spring this weekend? That's incredible. I picked up these numbers this morning...not only have the number 1, 2 and 3 running backs visited this spring, but we've had 4 of the top 14 recruits in the country visit in just the past couple of months (Lache Seastrunk, Marcus Lattimore, Michael Dyer and Trovon Reed)! We'll have around 40-45 recruits and commits from this past season (rough estimate). What's great about Lattimore is what he told Rivals.com Jeffrey Lee:
"Auburn is going to sign two backs this year. If (Malzahn) could do that with me and the other back they sign, that'd be perfect for me. I really like that."

Huge.

Hey, pass that cold one, Kenny...

It's about time. Kenny Stabler's done with the Crimson Tide Radio Network. If you wanna read up on that, check it out. If not, I don't blame you...

And I made this point over on TET. Basically, and I may have just missed out on this over the off season, but what happened to RB Eric Smith? He was great last season for the little play time that he had. There's really no comparison to Tate or Lester from last year, but still, I thought this guy looked great out there.

And everyone's talking about the UCLA/Auburn game, or lack there of. I'm not really going to discuss it because its been discussed too much. But Jay Jacobs does suck...

1, 2, 3, 4

Apparently Evan Woodberry thinks we'll have a big hint, if not the answer, to the quarterback hustle that's plagued us since last year. Saturday's scrimmage brought OC Gus Malzahn to the point of saying, "it's time for a decision." I have no preference...but it has to be better than what we saw last year. Every game was a struggle to sit through, and any fan that witnessed every home game last year has to understand what I'm saying. The only downside to the amazingly incredible QB battle is that the defense crushed out on Saturday's scrimmage, 61 - 34. This QB situation is the story that's been talked about and talked about, but hey...it's almost Saturday...better talked about last second, right?

Art Monk = Badass

Full 2009 NFL Schedule came out today. I'm looking forward to another stimulating season out of the Redskins, but I'm hopeful. Seriously.

Well How About This

As it goes this year, recruits come to Auburn really not knowing what to expect. When they leave, it seems as though they'll be back for their freshman season. I was really surprised when I read that we had not only the 2nd ranked recruit in the nation (#1 RB according to Rivals) visiting, but also the 2nd ranked WR (again, according to Rivals) visiting this past weekend, too. WR Trovon Reed enjoyed what we had to offer here at AU. "It was just really nice," he said. "I liked everything." Apparently he liked the family atmosphere here, and I can't argue. What's better is what RB Lache Seastrunk thought of his visit. Is it good when a recruit says that they had their "best trip ever?" Uh well...I think so..? Yeah, it is. Let me give you the whole quote:

"I've been to a lot of places. I've been to the top schools but I didn't get that feeling like I got here. It's a good feeling. Overall, it was the best trip I've had."

What's big about the whole story is what Trovon Reed said to Rivals.com reporters before leaving today. "When choosing a school, Reed said he and Seastrunk, who consider each other brothers, plan to choose the same school. According to Reed, they will be playing together in college." Neat.

Oh yeah, A-Day. Saturday. 1 P.M.

Outside Of Auburn

Just to put this out there, I'm also a big time California Golden Bears fan. I've been following Cal off and on since the early years. The 1-10 season (thank you Rutgers) was the first year I really got into Cal football a lot, oddly enough. I've luckily been to every game east of the Mississip since 2002. Usually I would've already been all over their recruiting season thus far, too, but being in Auburn and being focused on the new football staff has left me paying most of my attention to our program here. I'm super happy to see that the Golden Bears already have three early recruits, and one being in the "Rivals100." Awesome considering last years fall out of the national top 25 recruiting classes for the first time in a while! All of that is great, but Jesus, let the Bears win a series in Pac-10 baseball!

Also a full day for the MLB, and so far the A's have already lost a series to the Mariners. Dear God that sucks, because in years past the Mariners have been terrible, and the A's, with the exception of the Angels, have been one of the top two teams in the AL West every year for God knows how many years. I hate to see great players traded away to make room for "something or someone new." I know our budget is low, but don't pick up players who are trying to play just one more season before they give it up. For example: Mike Piazza (bust), Frank Thomas (semi-bust), Nomar Garciaparra (soon-to-be bust). It's hard to love a team that has only won one series in the playoffs since 1990, but I digress...

Oh, and the Lakers won...let's have Cleveland lose a game...
